New Year Smoothie Health Kick

Hi everyone!

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a nice Christmas and new year. If like most of us you over indulged this Christmas season what better way to start the new year than with a healthy smoothie. Smoothies can be a really easy way of getting more fruit and vegetables into our diets.

There are many benefits from drinking smoothies such as:

Improved digestion

Detox

Strengthening your immune system

Energy

Not to be forgotten smoothies can be really tasty too. I’ve pulled a few of my favourites below.

Healthy Green smoothie:

A simple combination of fresh leafy greens, flavorful fruit, and a liquid base is all it takes to create a green smoothie.

The Green smoothie is really good for reducing bloatedness.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups fresh spinach
  • 2 celery stalks chopped
  • 1 large cucumber peeled, cubed
  • 2 cups pineapple
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger grated
  • 1 tablespoon fresh squeezed lime juice

METHOD

  1. Place spinach, cucumber, and celery into blender. Blend until smooth. The cucumber should provide enough liquid, but if not, add a little water.
  2. Add the pineapple,, ginger, and lime juice. Blend again until completely smooth.

  3. Serve immediately or refrigerate for up to 2 days.

    green smoothie

    Strawberry Smoothie:

    INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup strawberries/raspberries or a mixture of both if preferred.
  • 1/2 a banana
  • 1 teaspoon of honey (optional)
  • Half a cup of orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons of natural yogurt
  • Handful of ice cubes.

    METHOD

    1. Place strawberries, banana and yogurt into the blender. Add the yogurt, orange juice and ice. Blend until smooth.
    2. Serve immediately or refrigerate for up to 2 days.

     

    pink smoothie

    Tropical smoothie:

    INGREDIENTS

  • cup chopped pineapple
  • 1 cup mango
  • 1 banana
  • Half a cup of orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons natural yogurt
  • Handful of ice cubes

    METHOD

    1. Place pineapple, mango and the banana into the blender. Then add the yogurt and orange juice. Blend until smooth.
    2. Serve immediately or refrigerate for up to 2 days.
